KALO Live in Tel Aviv in Novemeber

לקריאה בעברית

I'm home. I came back to vote and to be with my family, and there's an electricity in the country right now. The election is all anyone talks about, in cafés, in taxis, in every group chat, and I wanted to be here inside it, participating in such an important duty, not just reading about it from Oklahoma at two in the morning.

And while I'm home, I'm playing. As a wise musician once told me; “Just be playin.”

Last night I played a kibbutz, and there will be more small pop-up shows like that over the next few weeks; follow me so you don't miss them.

But two nights in Tel Aviv are the big ones:

  • On Friday, November 6, I'm at Mike's Place with a full band of Israeli musicians. Mike's is one of my favorite places in the world: the sea right outside, people from everywhere, live music every night. It's a Friday night, it'll be loud, come early.

  • On Tuesday, November 24, I'm playing a solo late set at Levontin 7. Just me and the guitar, close enough to see everyone's faces. I'll sing "Bo," the song I chose for The Voice this summer because some days only Hebrew will do (I wrote about why here). I'll also play songs from my new album that nobody has heard yet, and a few covers I love, the ones that taught me what a guitar and a voice can do together.

A Jimi Hendrix cassette found me in Haifa when I was sixteen. I've spent the years since learning that music where it was born, in America, and I recorded this album there with a Grammy-nominated producer. Bringing it home, and singing in my first language on the same night, feels like closing one circle and opening another.

If you've been writing to me since the summer, come say hi in person. Come to both, and bring someone who doesn't know me yet.
